PROJECT COST CALCULATOR
This calculator provides a preliminary starting estimate for the design of one individual space undergoing a major renovation. Multi-room projects, full-home renovations and new builds require a custom proposal. You may calculate each room separately to get a general idea of potential design fees.

Prices are shown in Canadian dollars. Applicable taxes are additional. This calculator estimates one room or area at a time. Estimates from separate rooms should not be added together as a final project price.
INTERIOR DESIGN COSTS IN MONTREAL
The cost of hiring an interior designer in Montreal varies depending on the size of the space, the type of room, the complexity of the project and the level of design services required.
A design fee may include space planning, design concepts, material and finish selections, furniture and lighting recommendations, 3D renderings, custom cabinetry design and technical drawings. Renovation projects that require more detailed planning and coordination will generally require a larger design scope than furnishing or decorating a single room.
Use the interior design cost calculator above to get a preliminary estimate based on your project. The estimate is intended as a starting point; the final design fee is confirmed once the project scope and requirements are reviewed.
TYPICAL DESIGN FEE RANGES
Interior design fees vary depending on the scope and complexity of the project. As a general guide, residential interior design fees in Montreal may fall within the following ranges:
These figures represent estimated professional design fees in Canadian dollars and do not include construction, furniture, materials, contractor costs or taxes. Larger renovations, custom work and projects requiring extensive technical drawings or coordination may exceed these ranges.
HOW DESIGN FEES ARE CALCULATED
At KFantazy Interior Design, the design portion of a project is generally quoted as a project-based fee. The fee is determined by the scope of work, type and size of the space, level of detail required, custom elements, technical drawings and overall complexity of the project.
Project management and on-site coordination are typically billed separately at an hourly rate. Unlike the design scope, the amount of project management required can be difficult to predict in advance. Some projects may require only an occasional site visit, while others may require the designer to be on site several times a week for multiple hours.
The amount of coordination depends on factors such as the complexity of the renovation, contractor requirements, site conditions, deliveries, changes during construction and issues that may arise as the work progresses.
The calculator above estimates the professional design fee for the selected scope. Project management, site visits and construction coordination are not included in the calculator estimate and are billed separately when required.
ABOUT THIS CALCULATOR
This interior design cost calculator was created by KFantazy Interior Design, a Montreal-based interior design studio, using real project scopes and the pricing structure we use for residential design services.
The estimates are intended to give homeowners a realistic starting point when budgeting for professional interior design. Actual fees may vary depending on the size of the space, complexity of the renovation, level of customization, technical requirements and overall scope of work.
Every project is reviewed individually before a final design fee is confirmed. The calculator provides an estimate only and does not replace a project-specific proposal.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
For most interior design projects, the design fee is quoted as a project-based fee. Initial consultations and project management are typically billed hourly. Every project is different, however, so we determine the pricing structure that works best for the specific scope of work and for the client.
We can provide general guidance based on the cost of similar projects, but the most reliable renovation estimate should come from a general contractor. Construction costs depend on many factors, including existing site conditions, labour, materials and the complexity of the work. We can refer our clients to preferred contractors so they can obtain a more accurate estimate for their specific project.
Start by determining how much you are comfortable investing in the project. We also recommend allowing approximately 20% of your renovation budget for unexpected expenses, especially when renovating an existing home. Remember to include applicable taxes when determining your overall budget.
Your budget helps us determine the appropriate level of quality for the project. Think of it like buying a pair of shoes: you may be looking for something inexpensive that will last a season, or you may want a higher-quality pair designed to last for years. Both are valid choices, but the price will be very different.
Knowing your budget allows us to recommend materials, furniture, fixtures and design solutions that are appropriate for what you are comfortable spending. It helps us design realistically from the beginning rather than presenting options that do not align with your investment level.
